I'm sure you gleaned this from my question, but I'd like to enforce the relationship when the user chooses a parent, but allow the dropdown to be "looser" and show all child options if the user does not choose a parent.

Do you have any thoughts on how I can accomplish this, perhaps by exploiting the completefunc option?
