This *great* function solved a lot of problems of mine :)
Runs correctly with jQuery 1.7.2, but jQuery 1.8.0 (SPServices 0.7.1a) produces wrong results (only in IE) when having a child column > 20 options: child field didn't filter.
simpleChild parameter set to true didn't solve the problem too.
Resolved simply turning back to jQuery 1.7.2
