Would it be possible to alter SPServices so that it returns an object that can be used with JQuery's Deferred (http://api.jquery.com/category/deferred-object/)? Right now it's harder than it needs
to be to make several asynchronous calls with SPServices.
Comments: Implemented in 2013.01ALPHA3. The core SPServices function now returns a deferred object as well as execuring completefunc (if provided) for backward compatibility. As a further test of the capability, SPArrangeChoices also uses the returned promise as a test to improve performance and user expeience. I'll be implementing more use of promises inside the library as it makes sense before finalizing this release.
